Three weeks into it and I've already developed a pretty strong taste for 2009. Obama's taken over the Oval Office and I have a place of residency with an actual bed now. I finally passed the reigns of the air mattress onto one of my friends who is now sleeping on it in my living room floor because she has a genuinely psychopathic roommate. I'm also pretty happy with my (albeit very low-paying) jobs because neither of them require me to do a terrible lot. I was unemployeed for eight months and never really got tired of it. I got tired of living on other folks' couches, but not with being unemployeed. It was pretty badass. So I like my jobs because I don't have to worry about them too much at the end of the day and I don't have to wake up at any obscene hour to be on time for either.

I can't seem to convey to anyone in my family that I really have no desire to procure any kind of static "career". My mom called me today with some lame listing on Monster of a design job in Cullman (wherever the fuck that is), AL and although I know she's only trying to help, I can't count how many times I've told everyone I've talked to, including my mother, that I genuinely do not enjoy designing things to other people's standards. There's no place in a corporate environment for artistry. The only reason I did and enjoyed doing all the crap for The Dirty Lungs is because they let me have free reign over it and just pitched out ideas when they thought of them. Also, they didn't pay me, so it was bee kitties or bust. I'm only just now starting to get excited about the idea of making my own art again, which is only because no one is forcing me to. Going to school for art was the worst idea I've ever had.

One of my girlfriends got free plane tickets somehow, so I'm probably going to California next month. Spend a few days in San Francisco and a few in LA. I've never been, so it should be an amazing adventure for shits and giggles. Otherwise, I probably never would've made it to California because I always seem to insist upon retarded modes of transportation like Greyhound, or the train, or pogo sticks.

Still feeling a bit of a void, but I'm getting numb to it again. I suppose that's how I survived the last time. I've always given myself the impression that not much was going to change in that arena over the course of (the rest of) my life, so start early, right?

I like my free time and I like my low-status part-time jobs and playing Final Fantasy all day and I like being able to read books about cosmology in my spare time because I am a fucking weirdo and have always wished I had the time to read books about the fucking universe and now I can, so... I guess I win.
